These make great light hikers and camping shoes. The removable insoles let you drop in your own for whatever activity you want, a stiff pair for a dayhike, the original waterproof ones for rafting, whatever! The Cordura uppers are tough, and they weigh less than a pair of Vans or other style shoes. I got a pair of the Low tops as well, they are great if you don't need a mid size. Sizing was about the same as my other shoes, and the wide is a nice option too.
These shine when used as intended - as on OTB boot with fins. They shed water fairly quickly and dry faster than other issued boots I've used, and the lower profile helps with comfort and donning/doffing of the fins. They are very light weight. The outsoles are indeed sticky, and great when on wet decks or climbing caving ladders. However, these are not hiking/rucking boots, approach boots, or even necessarily a daily wear boot. Because of the requirement for a low profile, they offer little in the way of real cushioning, no arch, and although they shed water decently, your feet WILL get hot if warn for miles or on a warm day. They also run narrow (D fits more narrow than most shoes in D width), for the above stated reasons. If you go a size up and use cushioned inserts, you may block the drain ports. If you don't go up a size, good luck comfortably using any inserts. The footbed is a very "sticky" material that works well to keep your foot planted inside when wet, but makes donning/doffing difficult when wearing socks.
So I bought two pair of these in my normal shoe size, 12D, and I can barely get them on my feet. They're very narrow, don't feel like a D at all, and they're very tight for a 12. Unfortunately I threw out both boxes so I'm stuck with them. I think if I had ordered a 12E I would have been much happier. The inside is made of a very grippy material (think Gorilla gloves). Makes them even harder to put on and take off with the small sizing. But...once on they feel very comfortable (albeit tight). I wish I had bought the larger size, I'm sure I'd have given them 5 stars.
